MOT failure 2012 VW Polo.

Been offered a 2012 Polo MOT failure. Don’t need much, couple of patches on the sills, a pair of doors (not essential but would make a big difference to its appearance), passenger doir handle not working and EGR light on dash.
Got it collected this evening, 1.2 TDi 105k and had it for scrap value. Couldn’t really leave it there.
No brainer really. Should be a quick turn around. Pair of complete doors in the right colour should be here on Monday from Perth for £240 plus courier cost, welding and my time is free. Let’s see what it brings.

Should be a nice project, can’t believe the sills have gone on a 2012 German car, VW build quality is going down hill by the looks of things, or the paint has been compromised a while ago and never repaired.

Isn't the EGR Buried at the back of the engine?

I welded sills on an older model a few years ago, lost the jacking point pointer but it looked fine when done.

My 2010 Polo rotted the sills like that too, mind you between me and my son we got just shy of 250,000 miles out of it

The MoT history on that looks like it was neglected from new.
Damm good service and the sills it will keep someone motoring for a few years yet.

My son has a 2014 R Line Polo, must have a close look at his sills which are covered by the 'sporty' body kit. Great wee car has 110000 something miles on it.

105k I think. Been used to get back and forth the steelworks in Port Talbot. Bought from VW in 2017 and only done 50k in 8 years. Steelworks is a s***hole and it’s right on the coast. Both points explain a lot.

be interesting why the sills suffered when you cut it open , lack of paint or a mud trap etc , £5 worth of wax might have kept it nice

I'm sat drinking a coffee right now while my 2008 Renault Master Camper is in having mot.
I've welded front inner sills on both sides, replaced the outer sill from wheelarch to B Pillar, and replaced both jacking point boxes with offcuts of 150mm box section (kindly supplied by @sako243 ).
Sitting here now hoping I get a pass (not just on my repairs but nothing else wrong.
I noticed some wear on the inside of the o/s front tyre plus I hit a massive pothole en route to test hidden by the overnight storm water dammit).
MoT ran out on the 8th before I could complete, & today was earliest test date I could get on a Friday.
Fingers crossed!
