Spoilt a bit by some the knobhead celebs, quite a bit actually as some of the roads & scenery are spectacular.
Some of the driving is also spectacularly poor & poorly planned, and guess the support team out of view is actually pretty huge.

I have an irrational (possibly) dislike for Ben Fogle, if I were Hugh Dennis I would have murdered him on route and enjoyed it

A few years back I was in Slovenia with an ex-ladyfriend. We had a hire car and mooched about Bled and the Julian Alps region. Quite by accident we discovered the Vrsic Pass: climbs to over 5000 feet with 49 hairpins built by Russian POWs in WW1. On the north side of the pass the hairpins are all cobbled.

For several years some mates and I have done a European bike tour; different themes, areas etc. every year. For several years I suggested we should pop across to Slovenia and do the pass with the cobbled hairpins. Some of the guys don't like hairpins. Some don't like cobbles. Someone ponted out that it might rain. So cobbled hairpins in the rain was about the worst idea imaginable
After much hype and planning we put together a route that had us staying at Colditz and dropping into Prague for lunch, followed by an overnight stop at Strakonice in preparation for The Big One. The ride in was brisk and smooth, via Kranjska Gora.
Then: you could feel the tension mount. People stopped to check their tyres, make sure luggage was secure, zip up jacket vents in case it got cold. Voices became hushed on the intercom. We set off.
