Hi,

ive had one of the above for a few years for site welding,

My problem is that when I plug a 9" grinder in, its woefully under powered, is this normal?

I don't know much about wattage, voltage and kva but ive got a pramac generator with 240 and 110v sockets with a lower kva and it handles a 110v grinder no problems.

Its been like this since new.

you will need to know the kva rating of the auxiliary socket not the welder its self

Its the 150 amp/ 1.5kw one then.

The grinder is a standard off the shelf Makita angle grinder.

I noticed on the spec sheet that the socket is for 'fixed speed power tools and lighting' so maybe its not designed for something as big as a grinder, considering the cost of the generator I thought it would have had a bit more oomph on the socket.

The welding side of things is perfect though, plenty of power there.

A quick google for Makita grinders shows it needs 2000W (2kW)

Most 9" grinders are 2000-2500w.....

Magic weld kicks out about 1500w, enough for most 5" grinders.
