Morse taper problem

Just received an MT4 test bar. Seems well made.
Problem is it is too long to fit down the tailstock. There are 2 small strips down there to grip a tang. Are they removable. Don't fancy attacking the bar with a grinder.
Why make them like this
The dead centre is fine.

I do not think test bars are designed to go in a tailstock. They are normally used in the headstock where a through bore is the norm.

They will do both. This one sold for testing tail stocks.

What were you planning to test with it in the tailstock?

A test bar is not going to help if the tailstock has been offset for taper turning and you want to see if it is coaxial.

If you want to check that the tailstock is not twisted (or drooping or rising), just extend the barrel and run the indicator along that.

I agree, I can't actually see why anyone needs a test bar. And I'm normally the sort of guy to buy my way out of a problem...so I would have bought one if I thought it would have helped

I bought it more for the headstock. I found the special Colchester bush the other day. But it would have been nice for the tailstock but yes the barrel is more than long enough on the Triumph.
