Last Thursday my lad bought a used car from an independent dealer
2017 audi a 3.
Paid in full debit card Thurs to pick up Sat
Saturday he tried to tax it before going to get it and its not recognised on tax site phone the dealer, they say there has been a mix up on the registration they have not received it yet from the previous one owner the main dealer but it will be done Monday Monday and today pass they still haven't done it we ask again to explain the problem in more detail they say its on an Irish plate so needs to be reregistered.
Alarm bells are ringing with me.
I asked trading standards, they say he can reject the purchase as not fit for purpose.
Any thoughts?

You can drive the car anywhere in the UK on the original NI reg, you definitely don't need to re-register it, the dealer is talking rubbish! If you want to you can get a local registration plate put on the car, if I buy a car with an English reg no I can apply to get a local NI reg no on it.
