Moore and Wright 24" Square

I brought this today on a whim, its a monster and very heavy. Seems good nick with Just surface rust, compared to my eBay roofing square its roughly the same. I suspect the ebay one isn't exactly accurate. Any idea what its worth? It's too good for anything I do given even when I use a square stuff ends up on the ****!

You know you can adjust a roofing square with a center punch and hammer.
Set of these makes a roofing square a very handy square for any angle and very repeatable.

I have the 48” version. You have to plan how to lift it!

It’s in perfect nick and in the original case, I paid £90 at a commercial auction.

A good condition 24” in case is worth £150-£250.

But yours is not in good condition.

I've added some more pictures after going over it with a soft rotatery wire brush to take the light rust off, it's left staining which looks spot darker in pictures. Any idea how to get rid of eh staining?

Looks like it's been used as a boat anchor. You could tidy it up with some emery, go up through the grades as you would do finishing a knife but you'd need to find some other way to recalibrate it for precision use. Someone on here must have a surface grinder...

I bought back to life a badly corroded height gauge I bought of Winchman.

Dunk it in a citric acid bath then go through grades of wet and dry. You’ll never get all the marks / pitting out but it will be perfectly serviceable.

Won’t be tool room standard but good enough for home use

I would love to have worked at M&W in their cabinet making department, all the stuff you’d have seen... all good quality cases too
