Monster Trucks (pics)

Went to Odsal last night, with the wife, kids and my camera

It was a first for me, having never shot anything like this, well over 1500 shots, most of them rubbish but a few diamonds in the rough

I now need a longer, faster lens for next year

Few facts from the night, they weigh 5 ton plus which makes the jumps even more impressive, and the swamp thing (green, bottom pic) runs on nitro and does 30 gallons to the mile (not a typo!)

The longer the lense the smaller the maximum aperture = slower speeds, unless you pay big bucks

Not cheap springs to mind tho.......

The nice thing about DSLR's is you can push the ISO speed up so unless you intend printing A3+ size it's fine.

That looks like the real deal like the yank shows. Every motoring event I've been to in the past that had monster trucks were lame. Nowhere near the power that the proper ones have to do the jumps. They must be knocking out 2000+ horsepower. Nice

Cardiff was the last monster truck show my son and I went , was about 3 years ago we often go to santapod for the drag racing and they have a very small scale monster truck show no was as good as the usa monster trucks . Swamp thing spends most of its time at santa pod so good to see it doing its thing else where..

Yep, in 2008.

Went on a mad spanner run to try and fix it after it blew a CV joint. It's on Unimog axles - but the owner really didn't seem to know much about it

I used to go to watch stockcars there as a kid, The track was a shale oval around the rugby pitch as can roughly be seen by the tarmac perimeter that the monster trucks was doing the display. Them were the days

Well at least it will be easy to access the underneath for welding up rust holes in the chassi .

Think I've found a good second hand f2.8 mark 2, with IS for a good price (as long as the wife doesn't see it)

I've also been looking at the sigma equivalent, but would Deffo want to try before I buy

I've always stuck with genuine canon, good lenses seem to hold on to there money so if you've for a bargain your lucky.

I could stomach the price of the Is model when I got the f4l

Every other lens I have is canon, I want to try the sigma 18-35 f1.8 just because it's an 18-35 f1.8!

The one I've found has been well used but well looked after, no damage just some worn paint on the tripod mount etc, I may have sealed the deal including a full service, just need to finalise a couple of details, and explain to the wife why I need another £800 lens!
