Molybdenum Disulfide vs. Molykote.

Hi all,

Finally got round to giving my 4 Jaw Ptatt chuck a strip and clean and wondered which grease I should be using.

I have some white Molykote stuff that I bought for my 3 jaw a few months ago but of course the 4 jaw doesn't have the big spirally plate thing.

What's the concensus?

Anything sticky will attract swarf, especially nasty stuff like cast iron or fine brass turnings.

A scroll chuck has slightly more protection, but even that allows swarf into the interior. Having said that, I have used a light oil sparingly on my chucks.

I mixed it with some moly grease in one die grinder handle as a experiment, I have 2, the one with the powder runs about 5deg cooler, it vary's in price by a factor &
It goes a long way the little tin I have is still over 3/4 full.
It seems to be sold by cycle shops at a price
Used it in the flexi shaft mixed with the molly grease as well the cycle people seem to use it mixed for chains

Must admit, I'm a big fan of Duck Oil!

Ive used white grease for the last 10yrs, with no noticeable creap. Moly would be overkill

I use a blend of graphite and moly, seems to work well. Certainly way less chips stuck in there.

Thanks for all the tips chaps. I've gone for Moly inside and a wipe down with Duck oil everywhere else.

Oh, and so far, I've not been covered in it!
