Modern Startrite pillar drill info?

I'm looking at buying a Startrite pillar drill which looks fairly modern but the seller doesn't have much info on it. Is there a website that lists specs or anything? I've checked the lathes.co.uk website with no luck.

just the chuck size motor size and how many speed will do

The only info I have is its three phase, 1.4kW motor, morse taper spindle and looks like this

I have 3 phase so can run it without having to do anything extra

I did some work in a farm/engineering workshop where they had a lovely 3ph Startright pedestal drill.

Couldn't help noticing loads of morse taper drills that had been turned down to fit the 1/2" chuck.

Couldn't resist. While him and his son were at lunch I popped the chuck out and put a morse t2-7/8" drill in,
flipping the collar round to change into low speed range.

Mid afternoon I saw the pair of them deep in discussion around the drill and it seem like ages before it dawned on them.


I didn't laugh........ much.

It is a Startrite EFI drill. This model is on the lathes site. Mine was made in Portugal. Also sold in America as Rockwell 70-100 EFI.

Geared head with no synchromesh (!) means you have to turn the chuck a bit to get the gears to engage. Don't try to change gears with the motor running.

Built-in two speed three phase motor that needs 415v to run. Probably 3 morse taper.

I have a manual/parts diagram if you need one.

I have an old statrite I did find a place in the midlands who sells all the parts new but not new machines, Cant find thelink at the moment but I will have another look later

When I bought my lathe from the uni I was testing out all the speeds, forward and reverse, then put some aluminium bar in to do a test turn which came out nicely. I then pulled the power feed into the surfacing position, and engaged the feed. There was a similar 'we never knew it could do that' moment!
