I have a van, generator, mig welder, now going to buy a tig welder.
Have any of you guys tried it or know anyone who does it?
Just wonderd if there is any money in it

You'll have to find a niche & have all the proper kit, too many cowboys running around with an SIP weldmate 140, willing to repair a few gates for 20 quid! If you have all the right gear (and qualifications) you should be able to earn a crust. When I say the right gear, you will need a generator of at least 7Kva to be able to run decent welders from - and that's a fair size.

I wouldn’t dream of misleading anyone.
The thing is where the hell do I go and what qualifications do I need? My local college only has part time beginner courses. What certificates do I need?
NVQ? City & Guilds?
Oh and is there any link between autocad and welding? I have City & Guilds lvl 3 but 100% office work is so dam boring. A job with some manual and some office work would be great.

All depends on what type of work you are aiming at. There are plenty of honest, reliable welders out there without any formal qualifications, but loads of experience. They wouldn't even be considered for laying gas pipelines but I think you'll find that's a closed shop anyway - usual catch 22 jobs - all the bits of paper and loads of experience required!

Ha Ha! Oh, the old VAT return! Ain't it the thing you look forward to every quarter?!! Here's how much I've collected for you this time Mr.Brown, Oh, & you can have virtually everything in my bank account come the first tax return due January 31st. (I'll re-mortgage the house come July 31st.!!!)

I would not bother with qualifations unless you plan to weld on serious civil enginering projects. I know of at least 6 local companies that do mobile and workshop welding(including me) and there is probably no more than 1 bit of paper between all 20 odd people! If you can show you can do a good profesional job and lay good welds you will have no problems.
Besides which if you do go to collage, I hope you have a teacher with EXPERIENCE. As I'm sure most people on here will agree and say that practice and tecnique are the most important thing- not what the book says!

Health & Safety is getting to the point of rediculous! I have a mate who works for the National Trust & he has to fill in a risk asessment form before he uses the, wait for it... photo-copier!! Madness - faced with the competition from the far east??!! End game = sign on!
As regards going to college to get welding qualifications, most night school/part time classes are useless when it comes to paper qualifications! Great for learning & well recommended for beginners, but when I did one (18 years+ ago) the Tutor was only interested in getting his foreigners done! & I think I taught him something!
