I have a Plant style towable Arc welder unit that also supplies both 240v and 110v. I got it a few years ago off ebay. It had fallen in the the Liverpool canal and was fished out and the electrics was sorted by a electrician who did the units for a living so new what he was doing. It is a great piece of kit which I originally bought as a power supply back up to my shed. I do use the welder unit itself too but the amount of welding I now do in general is small. It starts every time even after standing for months. Diesel Lombardi engine. Noisy but reliable. Anyway the fall in the canal dented the canopy and the carrier boxes on the side took a knock. I have decided to tidy the poor thing and have had the canopy off and painted it. I did not bother trying to straighten the dents as they are not that bad and anyway it gives it its character. The bin boxes dont have lids so I have now decided to make and fit some. One side holds the battery and cables and in the other I have mounted the silencer. My question is this. Is it safe to use the welder to weld itself if you see what I mean. I can run a set from my shed to the welder but thought I would ask as it would be less of a faff.
