Mobile signal

As a result of Thursday night's thunder storm I've been without a mobile signal. Reported it to O2 (I'm on PAYG with them) by email and got an acknowledgement saying they were aware of the outage and were fixing it.

Signal restored this morning but I notice I've now got an 'H' bedside the signal strength bar. Google gives details of the various networks, 3G/4G etc but I'm unable to work out if I'm better or worse off for connection speed/availability?

Please keep it simple for an old fogey who only uses the mobile for calls & texts.

Basically, you are on 3G with correspondingly slower speeds and poorer connections.

What's Edge then , no good for data at all really ?! Equivalent of 2G maybe !

EDGE might be thought of as being "about 2.5G". Data rate is, at least in theory, several times faster than 2G.

EDGE does struggle with delivering today's complex web pages within realistic times.

Signals round the Somerset levels are poor at present does not seem to mater which network.
Did a 20 mile trip one side to the other usually solid gave up dropped out so meany times

Might be worthwhile. It enables you to make calls via a WiFi connection to your internet. I have it on my Nokia through what was Virgin and is now O2

With around here I have colleagues with numerous makes seems to be universal,
2 have EE direct wi fi aerial to local site gone from 80/90mb to at worst 2/ 20mb
Its broke like so meany things

OnePlus 1, in phone terms it's as old as the hills but does all [and more] than I need/want.

Had a follow-up email from O2 this morning saying

"We’re still working to fix your issue. We’ll have an update for you in five days, or sooner if it’s fixed."

so will wait and see what they come back with next.

We are having huge problems in Sarf London since the storms, multiple sites with SIM card routers for the BEMS Comms, all offline.

SIM provider not interested, lots of promises but no action

My Vodafone supports WiFi calling but whilst I am hotspotting on my wife's EE any calls I make connect BUT neither side can hear anything...
