Where could i get this or equivalent for my bandsaw gearbox in smallish quantity's?

Don't know, but sort of recall someone using CV joint greese on their bandsaw gear box I guess it is less likely to escape.

Not a fan of grease for gearboxes personally. Especially if the gearbox isn't compact, hence keeping the grease in close proximity to the gears, grease flings out like mad, and once it's started hardening slightly in a few years, it'll be almost worthless as a lubricant. Oil is a much better solution.

I'd be tempted to just chuck an automotive gearbox oil in there if you can't find an exact match Woody, something like an EP90 or 80/90. If it can cope with the torture a diff receives, it should cope with that usage no problem.

I'm really fussy when it comes to things like this I can get the 600w oil in 20 liters which is the correct oil for worm drive units and is also yellow metal friendly, I just wondered if anyone knew of any available in smaller quantity's
Push come to shove i could always buy 20 liters and split it into smaller quantity's should anyone on here need any.

Industrial Gear Oil 460 is manufactured from high quality solvent refined base stocks and extreme pressure additives.

Application:

Industrial Gear Oil 460 has been specially designed for the lubrication of enclosed gears, Industrial worm, helical and various other speed reducing fixed ratio gearboxes which require EP (extreme pressure) lubricants. Use as received.

Performance Profile:

• DIN: 51517: Part 3 (CLP)
• Excellent extreme-pressure and anti-wear properties.
• Good product stability at operating temperatures.
• Good seal compatibility.
• Good anti-corrosion properties.
• Non-staining to yellow metals.
• Excellent Gear protection.
• Not compatible with oils based on polyglycol.

I'd try Morris as well, their technical dept used to be pretty good if you phoned.

this comes up as equivalent no idea on who sells it in uk though seems to be on lots of usa sites

cp8a lubriplate is an equal to the 600w super

Can you check it is actuly 600 weight oil and not just an oil name? I needed some 600w oil for the bridgeport slotting head, and after much research the 600w steam cylinder oil it spec'd is around 140w,
Castrol do it in 1 litre tins and its like treacle, used in model A ford gearboxes,, cant think 600w would be pourable!

Be very carefull using EP oils, if there is any bronze in the gearbox the EP additive eat it, only use EP if specified,,

600w must be well on the way to 000 grade grease!
