My thoughts exactly Pete ..... bet the lad had a cough after all that cutting and grindingYou gotta admire the lad's tencity he's completely undaunted. For every one like him there are 200 sitting in their armchairs saying how it couldn't or shouldn't work.
I think you are missing the point of the build . I Don't think the lad built it to see how accurate he could make it, and of course after people see how he built it ,there are always the I wouldn't have done this I wouldn't have done that brigade .....He did well for just using a battery drill and a couple of grinders and an adjustableAn impressive amount of ingenuity there. While undoubtedly not as accurate as a "proper" lathe, could well be better than the cheap and nasty you'd get for equivalent money new and of course any lathe is better than no lathe!
I'd personally have done quite a bit of it differently but that's in part from owning a "proper" lathe, considering its deficiencies and how I could improve things rather than a criticism of his work.
Then again I was to make one I'd go a totally different route anyway.
Seen this a few years ago . Bet he didn't use a battery drill and a couple of grindersI like this one...
