A mate of mine came around 3 months ago and asked if he could change his Pajeros engine in one of my sheds, You know what they say " a friend in need is a pain" Well, it turned out his donor engine was more knackered than the one already in there so 3 months one strip down and rebuild later and its finally going back together - it came to putting the water pump back on and the o ring that came in the gasket set was way to big. I had the obligatory moan and got a replacement but that's too big as well, Not quite as big as the first one but at least 1.5 - 2cm too long. Anyone got any suggestions as this is P*****g me off. I want the thing gone.

back to the motor factors and tell them to fit it in the track, then let them sort it out

Cut O ring to correct size, superglue ends together and use a little sealant on the joint when installing on the engine as a "belt & braces"

As much as I like the snoopers idea I think a smack in the mouth might offend me
. I used to have to make up o rings when I was at sea and used a jig to make sure the cut ends aligned perfectly, otherwise the things would always leak. But I don't think I have a choice - now where's that superglue.....

My experience of making "O" rings is the same, without using a jig it's virtually impossible to get the ends square and lined up, so you get leaks, although a water pump isn't going to have a lot of pressure behind it so you might get away with a bit of RTV sealant.
