Mine died last year, I put them in the "freebies" section in case anyone needed them for spares, don't know if @Windy Miller had any luck getting them going.

Well after a chat with the Guys at Mititoyo in Andover, I replaced the battery with a slightly different one and it worked. For about 20 seconds. Then it shut down again and won't switch back on.
A new reader module is about £65 ish, so when I'm next feeling the urge for a new toy I'll splash out.
Or maybe I'll remove the existing module and see if there's anything immediately obvious. I still think it's only a minor issue that SHOULD be a simple fix, so I'm not going to rush into a new one just yet!
I don't really mind, they were supplied by work 25 years ago & have had a lot of hard use over the years. Ironically enough they have had an easy life in the past few years, they now live at the lathe & I use my Lidl cheapies for daily use.
How do you take these apart, I think the problem might be corrosion somewhere.
