mititoyo vernier ...no worky

so took my vernier out of its box , where its nice and snugg indoors to use , turned on..well it didnt , changed battery still nothing ,checked 1.51 volts and still nada , any ideas what I might need to do to get it fired up, yes it was left with battery in but no corrosion present.

Try another cell, just in case the existing one has developed a high internal resistance fault, so that it reads OK on a multimeter, but drops under load.

Have you tried pressing the origin button for a few seconds - seems to work with the flashing LED?

It's probably jammed if you tried putting a battery in a Vernier.

I had a similar unspecified measuring tool.

It was dead out of the box. I tested the cell with my multimeter and it appeared fine.

I ordered fresh duracell batteries from flebay, put one in and it has been perfect since.

So unless the battery you tried is known new / fresh branded battery try again and you may get lucky. The cheapie China coin batteries are unreliable checking with a multimeter.

No relevance to the original and not going to comment on the vernier or verynear subject but I have a digital caliper from Lidl still on it's original battery after 6 years.

Did you take the little sticker off the new battery before you put it in! I was having a frustrating time with a small digital thing…..changed battery….still didnt work…..amazing what a difference taking the little sticker off makes!

Put the battery in upside down for a few seconds. To cause a short. Then put it in the right way up. I have no idea why this works, as I don't fully understand electronics! But I've brought stuff back to life this way after being advised to do it... Has worked with heart rate monitor chest straps and bicycle power meters..

It's bizarre how if someone was saying TIG instead of MIG (for example), they would be corrected, accept their minor error and all would be well.

Do the same for digital caliper vs a Vernier caliper and some become so agitated their undergarments become entangled.

That's a fair point and well presented.

not sure if it's by design but I have an el cheapo caliper that has auto on, so it will wake up when you move it, hardly ever gets used but the battery never lasts so fairly sure it's 'waking up' when it's in the case... switching on the hold function before switching off and putting it back in the case has solved that problem!
tightening the thumbwheel before putting it away would also work I suppose

not at all, just fed up with being picked up on virtually every thread I put on, my spelling is bad but most understand what I am saying without pointing it out ,there is a reason but its not for public consumption, I meant no offence to you and apolagise if I did.
