Anyone ever heard of it before the you tube algorithm suggested it too me a bit cheeky I thought but I do have way to much clutter. Been going round my bedroom manage too clear out 5 big black bags of rubbish. Have a m and s green bag full to the brim of old DVDs and electronic stuff that's going to be sold another big shopping bag full of books. Etc. Should have a lot more space by the end of it all. Kinda weird how the place has literally filled with an explosion of stuff. Hopefully it won't get all full again too soon or at least if it dose with stuff I actually use.

Worst of it is my parents have always complained how untidy my room is but about half the space in it is taken up with storing blankets and my mum's star trek book collection.

I can see the attraction, a few years back i cleared my parents house in lancashire, It was a strange feeling finding stuff from my childhood, they literally threw nothing away in case it would come in handy. The cellar under the house was stuffed with cardboard boxes it took weeks to get shot of it all.
Since then i have been tripping over several big boxes of cameras, This week i finally got them listed & sold. In the end they went to Lce who gave a good price for the lot.
I could maybe done better selling them privately but its finding where & dealing with the aggro that goes with it all.
So we have some more space & three less crates to trip over!

I have a good clear out a few times a year.

Both work related and home.

5 in a 3 bed house doesn't make for a minimalist layout but I dislike clutter that I don't use.

Yeah I inherited my grandfather's cameras and while they are all excellent quality I haven't used a single one ounce. Need to go through them all and see if I really want them or just hanging on to them for the sake of it. Taking a lot of it to the electronic trader CEX and a second hand book shop as I can't be bothered trying to sell privately either.

if you have a really nice car then you need to take care of it, clean it, worry about damaging it or it being damaged etc. (no tossing the dog in etc.)

That is very true. I do, however, probably fall into the hoarder camp. It can have its uses. I'm uncomfortable with/around the whole minimal thing.

Definitely has its uses sometimes, though while I'm not going too far I agree the idea of owning almost nothing is rather odd.

Yeah, sorting our kitchen at the moment. We have about 20 wine glasses - nobody can really visit (definitely not 20 anyway), and we don’t drink wine… Nice to open a cupboard and the contents doesn’t fall out on you.

Prices on some old cameras are rising as film has become retro trendy, worth doing the research to find out exactly what you have. Two of dads were Rolleiflexes, one 1959 another 1961. The older one wasnt in such good condition but was a rare US export only model with very few made, so its value was 5 times that of its better condition mate. The website collectiblend will give you some idea of values.

Minimalism is all well and good for people who only process information.

For those of use who process actual "stuff" it does not really work as well.

For those of us who do not know what sort of stuff or what process will be needed next month, there is a requirement to keep "stuff" about to process that "stuff" and then it all falls down.

I'd love to have less objects in the way. But it's a trade off in my life.

I was only sayin to @Anguz about this earlier today, when I split up from a long term relationship a long way back I gave away or scrapped so many useful bits I don’t regret it but even my house now is the same if I don’t use it. It goes to friends, ebay or charity in that order

I rarely buy clothes but if a sock has a hole in it it’s gone

I left a lot of stuff behind when I left jersey.

A lot of tools. Ladders scaffolding etc. I keep tools and materials for work.
Once a year I get a skip and go through the lockup to get rid of materials I won't use.

I am going through a massive sort out / clear out at the moment
It’s almost cathartic
I do have to be in the mood though, but when I am, I’m pretty ruthless.
Heidi has been saying “get rid of all this ****” for years and doesn’t realise my stash has worth, that’s why it’s here
So in the last 7 days I’ve liquidated a grands worth of stuff I won’t even notice is gone
And got more space as a result.
I’m trying to clear out a unit I rent and save the rental each month too

I like having stuff I can use again and really like being able to use it again. Unfortunately that comes at a price in terms of storage cost and time cost to properly organise, curate and catalogue (mentally or otherwise) everything. Having a thing and forgetting you have it only to have to buy another is where it falls down - it cost time and money to keep and realising you done that gives the opposite of the satisfaction gained by reusing a thing! Have done it more than once.

Nah... The whole place is crammed with "stuff" but it's mostly "cool stuff" in some way or another, I can't see me binning much of it.
I've got boxes full of spanners, sockets, pipe tools, etc etc that I'll probably never use but if I got rid of any , I'd find the next week I needed just the thing I rashly disposed of...

An acquaintance of mine was saying he had moved into a smaller house and a lot of his stuff was in storage. He had paid £1400 in fees to keep it there which would have easily replaced most of it. He realised it would have been easier and better to skip it than try to save it. I'm in the hoarder camp, I daren't even think of throwing my precious stuff
