Carl,
All depends on what ur doing.....
I have 2 verticals (Bridgeport and a new Myford, 1/2 the size of the B/port but the same R8 tooling) for over 10 years and only once I think did I wish for a horizontal....horizontals are very limited in use....
Mine are used a lot for fancy accurate drilling particularly with the larger rotor broach cutters...
Not to sure but £500 is a lot to pay for horizontal because of lack of jobs u can do, I'd of thought 200-250 would be enough as nobody wants em.....unless ur gear cutting etc that is....!!!!!!
For instance, my B/port was a1owner from new in a plastics factory but with burnt out electric's...
My cost was £850......but it was a long time ago.....
Out of interest, My plan is to train up some Young’un when I move (another warmer poorer country) and if he/she shapes up they can have all my equipment as a gift when I finally give up....
Just hope the batteries in the pace-maker are better than the one's in me phone.....hahaha....

Yes. Horizontals tend to go a lot cheaper don't they? I have a Harrison vertical/horizontal. If I ever get it working that is.

Bridgeport started out in business, by selling vertical heads to be mounted on horizontal mills. I did it myself with the Tom Senior, it works out well.

You still keep the horizontal milling ability and it makes for a versatile machine.

Once I get my DRO fit done I will be onto getting this up and running. Vertical and horizontal. I have a resto thread that has a dearth of posts!
