Milling machine clamp sets

ER-EL from Cutwel are very high quality (Turkish)

I have looked at those sets a couple of times, but I keep coming back to the thought, that that style of clamp doesn't need precision, it just needs to be able to hold things down, which a cheap set will do just as well.

That was my opinion too. Until i started using a partial set.

The studs/threads are much higher quality, the fit and finish is better and the material seems stiffer. The T nuts are also a better fit on my slots.

Small things but if you're using them a lot they are nicer to use.

....and, made of "better than bubble gum" steels.
Much better when you really, really don't want the part to move, and injure yourself or the machine.

‘Cheap’ is a lottery. Missing or imperfect parts, rough finish, not properly toughened threads, T-nuts through-threaded, etc.

Exactly.

I've been very happy with my £70 no brand set i bought from MSC or Cutwel a few years back. But now using these Er-El ones you can see the quality difference. However the price is over double.

Depends what you're doing. See at work i'm using the sets all the time so it would pay to buy the right kit.
