I have the machines listed above, they are new to me but not new.
I'm used to running an xmt 350 in conjunction with an older lincoln LN 7, but there are differences, and I'm trying to make sense of the situation, in order to do things the best way.
Some things I've run into, that I'm hoping to clear up for my own clarification, as well as to allow me to use the processes I want to use.
#1 the LN 25 has a gas inlet, and a built in flow gauge. I have looked all over in this unit, and cannot find any place that gas comes out. Nowhere to attach a tube or hose to at all. Any explanation as to how that might be normal, or picture that shows where this thing should be would be fantastic.
I do understand that I can just run the hose from my tank/regulator to the inlet tube on the mig gun, but the idea of a gas inlet, without somewhere that gas comes out is too weird for me to overlook.
#2 Another oddity is that at my welding school, we clamp the stinger onto the input lead on the ln 25, turn the xmt 350 to mig, and that powers up the feeder. The only way I can get the feeder to fire up is to turn it to stick. I think the prior owner ran exclusively flux cored, and maybe that was all he needed. I find stick level power through the flux cored wire way too powerful for my needs, so I'm hoping its a simple fix.
My best guess is along the lines of a missing cable that should go from somewhere on the ln 25 to the remote on the front panel of the xmt 350, but maybe I'm wrong and I just need to change some other part of the setup.
On an unrelated note, with the miller weighing around 80lbs, the suitcase weighing another 70 lbs when loaded, and 40 or so pounds of leads when using the extensions, I am starting to see why fancy welding machine carts are such a common early project. Oh yeah.. and lets not forget the tank.
If there is any info I can add, pictures etc, that would help these questions make more sense, please let me know.
