Miller syncrowave

Hi Guys,

I have the oportunity to buy a second hand Miller syncrowave 300P tig welder. How do you rate these units, any good, any thing I should look for. I presume Miller are still going so should be able to get spares if needed. Any service centres in the UK. Basically, any advice from anyone who's used one of these units would be gratefully received.

One of my favourite non inverter machines, that I have been servicing/repairing for 30 plus years. Generally very reliable but get a test weld first and ensure it all works correctly. Remember you will need a healthy (40A min) 2 phase supply, preferably with wire fuses - they don't like trips, which trip when switched on sometimes (main transformer is always connected and takes a big kick to start). PCBs reliable and repaired ones still available. If Miller watercooler is fitted under machine, these tend to rot. Also, check HF works, as transformers and capacitors are expensive. If you buy it, strip covers and thoroughly blow it out. Finally, large capacitors (lower left near mains input panel) used for power factor correction, can burn out. Expensive to replace but not really needed if you have good supply.

Sounds like Dave rates these machines like me! Good, sound well made machines which were built to last - they give me the least amount of trouble of all the used welders I sell.
