Miller Dialarc HF 250 ac/dc tig

I've just bought an old water cooled Miller Dialarc HF 250 ac/dc tig and am going to pick it up next week. The guy knows nothing about it as it came from a plant clearance so between us we still know nothing about it. It was in regular use until march this year so I'm not anticipating too many problems. Anything obvious I need to look out for before I part with my hard-earned? I haven't used a tig for 14 years so other than testing that it strikes an arc and that the water cooler works ok, that's about my limit.

I have an old Airco (made by miller) that is similar. There are two things to keep an eye on.

1. Make sure spark gap is 0.008" It will grow over time and as it gets bigger, it will be harder on the HV cap C2.

2. Keep an eye on the HF board in the front. The caps can leak.

They are good machines. Main thing is does it have all the accessories like the water cooler, torch, footpedal and hoses.

The footpedals are hard to find as they are unique to the units.

That is what I was looking for, something about that size and at a similar price.

These go here for $600-$1000 on ebay. Problem most are in California, 2k mile shipping is usually $600, so it hardly makes it worth it Ones lower are "unknown condition" and usually are missing torch, cables and footpedal. Yours looks like a good deal.

Mine was 6 miles away and an ebay steal.

Are you going to pick up or have it shipped?

Ask seller for the model number, then you can search Miller for the owners manual and be ready to go when you get it.

Aww don't be like that . I honestly think he messed up when he listed it, the description was this; 'Miller Dialarc HF 250 Amp' hmmm, now let me see what's missing..... 'tig', 'ac/dc', 'welder'. I think I know why there was only a few of us who spotted it I was higest bidder at £105 until the last few seconds. I've never refreshed a page so many times so quickly! Methinks me did well then?

Hehe, of course you can, but only if you bring me down some PROPER haggis! It's something I've never tried but always wanted to. I once got a 6x4 bandsaw cheap on ebay cos the guy had listed it as a 'band saw'. You can sometimes get 180mm flap discs very cheap on there as well cos people don't seem to realise that 180mm is less than 230mm, therefore they'll also fit a 9" grinder Spelling mistakes are classic examples of potential bargains.

I highly recommend, for a true taste of Scotland, Salar Hot Smoked salmon (on the interweb), from South Uist, on the Outer Hebrides. It's bloody lovely.

Got the beastie home today, all the bits are there, foot pedal, hoses, reg, flowmeter, mma kit, tig kit, water cooler (home-made). He threw in a box of assorted tungstens and collets, an apron, a box of 2.5mm 6013s, a box of 3.2mm 6013s, a tube of mild steel filler rods and a tube of ally filler rods. Can't wait to have a play with it once I get some gas. Downloaded a manual and parts list for it as well. Will post some pics of my, ahem, 'first' welds
