Hi folks,
Possibly one for the experienced steelworkers/engineers out there. Basically I want to know what thickness steel plate to use to drill a hole in for a 20mm pin from a bow shackle to use for lifting stuff with a hook/strap from our pallet forks, the max lift on the forks is 2 ton (or rather the max lift on the loader is 2 ton, forks are stamped at 3 ton and my bow shackle and hook are rated at 5 ton).
I don't know what kind of strength spec I'm looking for (shear, tensile etc..) so can't work out how thick the plate should be (I was thinking 20mm would be ok?) and how much material I need to leave below the hole for it to be strong enough.
Any help appreciated!
Cheers Dan
