Good idea, you will need some very well fitting screwdrivers to get the jets out without damaging them.
A hairdryer or hot air gun helps to expand the aluminium and loosen them.
Don't buy any Mikuni carbs from a Suzuki as for some reason they seem to be a nasty cheap variation of "proper" ones

I've seen some older ones with no plastic parts from mid 90's bikes

If you want to see how the circuits work find a slabside manual.
So that would be a 86-88 GSXR11.
Slabsides had BST34 slingshots had 36mm, 38mm & 40mm.
There are quite good cut away drawings in the manual.

Have to agree with get another pair.

Carbs are often not aluminium but a zinc alloy like Mazak, which has minimal shrinkage or distortion and a fine surface finish when cast.
It also can't be welded, soldered or brazed, bloody 'orrible stuff.

One of my customers used to be Mazak somewhere in midands - Walsall? If you ever saw old car door handles with the chrome bubbling off that was usually Mazak or equivalent.
They had a 'black museum' of castings that were developed but often not used - I recall a radiator grille for a BL car, really intricate casting but was deemed too expensive.
When Jaguar was designing (IIRC) the S or X-series they came up with a long finishing piece that sat above the reg. plate - the prototype Mazak part was still at the factory, Jaguar opted for chromed plastic
