I was working with a mate who had just purchased a migatronic 270amp mig single phase. It was the very first job with it, he said I need a 32amp supply to run it flat out. I said no problem I will take a feed from the refrigeration panel. After about 20 minutes welding I noticed flames from inside the welder casing. He was still welding with it totally oblivious to the fire. He took it back and they replaced it.
we had a bank of migatronics with seperate tig boxes big heavy things that had multi pin amphenol plugs a bit of water in the plugs was enough to stop them , on stick they were horrendous ,
the other bank of welders were miller gold star 400ss transformers ,perfect soft arc
when we were in Semco maritime in denmark they had lots of migatronic gear and a tame english sparky that
repaired all makes there an absolute genius !
Had a 3 phase 325 Compact for years, ran pretty well, then started popping fuses regularly, often spontaneously, on but not welding; was advised repair was uneconomic due to its age and sold it on eBay for 'Spares/Repair' for £60.
Where I trained they had a bank of Migatronic Rally's (old style, not the inverter), were they 160's or 180's, can't remember but they didn't give much trouble as far as I can recall. Ideal for car bodywork.
