migmate 130t old push button can i use gasless?

I have the very old 130 t
I got it from a friend who has passed away, I put a gas bottle on the end of the tube but when i pull the trigger nothing comes out so think there is a problem with the trigger, I did some welding with it today with the gas not coming out and it did work but splattered everywhere so I'm thinking of trying gasless wire, but can I change the polarity?
there are some small wires in the top where the rollers are are these anything to do with it!??

to change the polarity you must reverse the cable to the earth clamp and the thickest cable to the torch.
also welding without gas will cause the weld to be very weak totally useless really

If it welds the trigger will be OK.

Assuming you have connected the gas correctly I would be looking at the gas solenoid, if it has one, if not then the gas valve in the torch.

Changing polarity involves swapping the feed to the torch and the earth over, these are thick wires, given that they carry the welding current.

do you possibly now if this can be done on the 130 that I have? and what would happen if i just put gasless wire in?
should the gas come out when trigger is depressed even when not turned on? I can't hear any and the trigger does not seem to move much,

the machine may have a gas solenoid inside you would have to take the side off and have a look where the gas pipe is and what it connects to, if you are unsure post some photos of it. some machines with a gas valve will let the gas flow regardless of power to the welder but not if it has the solenoid.
you can definately swap the polarity if you know what you are doing, people have used gasless wire without changing polarity but it is recomended that it be swapped as it welds better that way.

When you say you put a gas bottle on the end did you mean one of the small disposable ones? Because lots of people who have used them have had problems with getting the connector/tap/regulator to fit correctly on bottle or the regulator plays up and does not release any gas. If you turn off the gas at bottle then find where the pipe goes onto the gas valve in the m/c, pull it off and then turn on bottle and listen for gas flow. Then you will know if the bottle connection ect is good.

On some regulators the tap requires a clockwise direction to open the valve to let the gas out,disconnect the gas line and see if it is releasing the gas?
