Migmate 130 turbo wire speed again

Lots of historic threads on here so struggling to pick out the detail

Always seems to have had problems with what I think is excessive wire speed especially at lower power settings.

Have tried adjusting the 1k pot but does not seem to have any effect on motor voltage/wire speed, should adjusting it slow down /speed up the wire speed or make the speed more stable ?

Taken some readings of motor voltage (no wire running through)

Low Min 20.0 - 24.9 V
Low Med 21.9 - 27.3 V
Low Max 24.5 - 30.3 V
High Min 26.3 - 34.4 V
High Med 30.8 - 37.6 V
High Min 34.7 - 41.7 V

Are these about right?
Any thoughts anyone?

A couple of members have persevered with the Migmates and got them welding sort of ok ish, I actually owned one and personally I think the last line of your post was the best one.

I did the wire feed transformer mod to my topmig - not sure whether the same would work with a migmate, but I would expect that it would.

I had a 20VDC transformer feeding the wire motor and at the lower end was getting decent performance at ~9V rising to ~17V when the machine was being pushed.
If you want to persevere with the unit then I'd seriously consider doing the wirefeed transformer modification. It will cost between a tenner, if you have a power supply available, and £30 if you need to buy one. Check the SIP mod posts for more info, or shout here and we can point you in a specific direction.
