migmate 105 turbo

I have a migmate 105 turbo which I am using for classic car restoration.

Is this machine OK for resto work, The reason I ask is when I start using the welder, the welds look good and consitant after a which the weld start to get erratic.

I have done the power supply conversion for the wire feed, which has made a big difference.

Running the machine at power setting 4 out of 6 ( quite high I suppose)

Is this welder more that enough for car work-If not what would you recommened on a budget.

A setting of 4 out of 6 shouldn't be thrashing it. Maybe some electronic component is breaking down as it warms up. Is it the wire speed varying that is making the welds erratic, or is it more like power failing every now and then?
As you have done the wire feed supply conversion the feed supply should be good and constant, but maybe check the voltage to the motor to be sure. If the power is failing it could be a diode breaking down, especially if it only happens when it gets warm.

Generally, if it's in good condition the machine should just about do for resto work, but might struggle a bit on stuff like chassis and brackets, where you may need to use short runs and longish pauses with only 105 Amps available. Personally I'd prefer something like a Clarke 135 Amp or bigger.

when things start to go wrong check the earth clamp to see if its getting warm, that could be a cause along with any other joints that get warm as they heat up the resistance changes
