I'm having a hard time developing this skill. Any vid's out there where i can see it done? We did it a little in an introductory course i took last year. I definitely need some guidance. Thanks. Mitch

Yes i've seen that video. Practiced it a few times. Minimal success on my part. My welds just seem to want to run downhill like a runny/ globby mess. Thanks for reading and responding to my post.

Sounds like you need to move faster up or use a larger V movement. Any pauses in the middle or if each V overlaps too much will cause droops.
Since your net vertical movement is slower, you would want to step down the power and wire speed a bit.
Another option, crank up the power and do vertical down. You can get the same penetration but you need accurate torch control as he power is set to blow through if you pause.
The wire can make a difference. I have had better luck with 0.035 wire. Seems easier with a slower wire speed. Also, ER70-2/3 anv ER70-6 are different. i cant remember which one has a more fluid weld pool (I think it was the -6.)
Post some pics.
I'm hit an miss these days. If I can't see the weld pool, it gets messy. After a few practice runs, i can usually do well.

Thanks for responding. I'll try the tips you offered and see how it goes. I'm trying to weld some .120 and .060 together. I'll make some practice welds this week and post up some pic's. Thanks again. Mitch

On that thickness vertical down will give adequate penetration and a good finish. Keep the torch pointing up about 30 degrees, up the juice and move fast! W/A.

I'll give that a try. It's 17 deg (F) today so i don't know if i'll make it to the garage tonight.
