Mig x-ray

Am new to this posting lark so be gentle
I'm welding 6mm 316L flat butt to x-ray standard.
I've set up the joint on a railway bar to keep it flat (ish) with a strip of hard aluminium between the job and bar.
My question is will flux core mig pick up aluminium and if so will back grinding the underside solve this??

Can you get a Cermaic strip to protect the back and capture the root? Or failing a that a copper plate at the back with the joint clamped down ontolit would be good.

I tried Ali initially as it was easier to get a strip of ali than copper, but the ali tended to stick to the weld. Copper does not. Not sure flux core mig would be the way to go if you want to xray test.
