I have just started welding again after a long brake can any body tell me why with all wire feed , power setting s ok i think i get a good looking weld nice sounds but occasionally the weld spits and splatters . Is this dirt on the weld material surface or just poor work man ship . Thanks in advance. Guy

Do you use gasless wire? Gasless is known for bird pooh welding. Or has the wire been stored for a while? -slightly rusty/spotty wire?.

Hi,
if you've not used it for a while it's more likely corrosion on the wire. Has it been left in the welder or did you store it in the house?
Sometimes the outer coils get a 'scummy' build-up due to contact with damp air. You could pull some coils off until you get to clean wire and bin the dodgy bit, or pull the wire through one of those green washing-up scratch cloths (dry, not wet) to clean it if you don't want to waste wire.

some wires just do that, its the composition of the steel and inconsistent manufactring methods.
I dont mean thats definitely whats happeing to you but its a possibility. I you have a nice sizzling sound from the arc there isnt much more you can do.

Thank to all replys , i am using argoshield universal gas , the kit has been stored in a metal shipping container have done what you said removed a layer or wire and problem solved thanks . Next step is getting a Tig set and learn that game any advice what to buy up to about £500 max .
