Mig weld/gas weld differences?

hi all ive just had myt car in for some welding on the underneath it needed steel plating in all places...what way should it of been welded? and how can i tell the difference between gas weld and mig weld?
im hoping he hasnt gas welded it as ive heard bad rumours about that.
my dad said that the guy at the garage quoted "i used a bloody full bottle of gas on that car" does this mean hes gas welded it ?or do you need to use the gas bottle for the mig ... ok im confused lol anyone got any ideas? thanks

You need to use gas for mig welding, and if he used a full bottle I would assume he was on the small disposable type.
Nothing wrong with gas welding on a car if it's done properly, but very few garages do because it takes considerably more skill and time to get a satisfactory result.

I'd have a good look at his welds. If he's overlaid the old steel with new it will need doing again pretty soon as there will be water traps. If that is the case blather plenty of Waxoyl into and around the joins.

Nothing wrong with oxy/acet welding, used to do hundreds of Tiumph Herald/ Vitesse chassis repairs with it and it looked as good as my TIG today.
