I need a more portable machine( my mrs doesn't like me welding in garage so my new welding workshop is getting built at the bottom of the garden it's too far to humf the portamig !

Its cheaper to weld in a shed at the bottom of the garden than it is changing the Mrs. Or you could show her my avatar picture, as that is my Mrs welding. I dont wear pink! Long storey but she wanted to learn, struggled with weight of wp 26 tig torch, but is good with both mig and stick. Quite handy to have some one to tac up while you hold bits in place. Confused my farmer neighbour when he came to have ago, he panics each time it sparks, so she said, no sid, ill show you, he is in the dark ages, and welding isnt womans work.
As for the insurance i know oxy accetelyne is an issue insurance wise at home, didnt think mig would be. Garages are for garaging......
Detatched better for insurance if it burns down but worse for theft, you cannot win with insurance. I had a right hoo har trying to insure garage contents in the burbs, in the end, increased contents cover,(they would only accept it as the garage was attached to the house) using my kid sister as the broker to get the policy jiggled about, most policies only cover about 1500 garage contents for theft. And as we all know 1500 quid is quickly gobbled up when you have a tool fetish!
Much easier now Im a small holder, and the policy is far cheaper too, for much more cover. Only thing not covered on it is the quad bike.

Yeh, my welding shed will be purpose built with 32a supply and fume extraction

Thatll be a big ditch for the big cable down the garden... How far is it , suspect you may be looking at a 10mm2 cable.
Will you have veichle access for big welding projects.
All my out buildings are detached here and no issue with noise, neighbours so far away!

Yeh 10mm2 the run is 40m yeh il be able to get decent size projects in !
