I'm brand new (today) to this forum. Looks great.
Tractor Supply sells the Hobart line of MIG welders. I was told Hobart was one of the top brands. Their web site doesn't provide the buying info I'd like (such as "where is it made", "what are the minimum amps", etc.).
Does anyone have any familiarity with this brand and with those welders sold by Tractor Supply?
PS - I only have an oxy-gas rig, and am wanting to learn MIG. I'm trying to decide what I should buy. The Hobarts sold by Tractor Supply range in price from 329 to 1599 ($US).
Please excuse this "dumb question" of mine, but the following description seems to indicate that the MIG welder can be used also as an arc (stick) welder. Is that true? Is that practical?
I appreciate any thoughts or feedback or experience you may have with this brand or your thoughts on their product description. THANKS!
Here's what their web site says about their model (the 140) that costs $479 (US).
140 amp welder. Operates on 120 volt household power. Comes with a MIG regulator and a sample spool of flux core wire. Easy set-up with the included door chart for initial set up of any product GMAW/FCAW. Includes extra contact tips. Quick release drive roll system for easy access to wire and wire changes . Easy access to polarity changeover when welding FCAW - GMAW. Dual groove drive rolls makes it easy to change from .024 - .035 wire. Self resetting thermal overload allows you to work through the most difficult jobs. Four output voltage selections with wire-feed-speed tracking to provide quick and easy adjustments. Built-in contactor eases use and is an excellent safety feature which makes the wire electrically "cold" when not welding. 10 ft. MIG gun included. 10 ft work clamp/ground cable included. Mig regulator and gas hose included. 8 inch spool wire adapter included. Great machine for auto body, farm/ranch, home, rental, construction and general maintenance. 5/3/1/ warranty. The Handler 140 is a compact MIG welder designed to run on 120 volt household power. The generous operating parameters allow you weld thin gauge steel (24 Ga.) up to 1/4 inch plate. The Handler 140 is easy to set up and runs flux core, solid and aluminum wire. The Handler 140 is extremely versatile and perfect for the welder that wants to work on auto body, household repairs, or even heavier farm projects that require extra power. The Handler 140 is a tapped voltage unit that gives you the best possible power and arc available while welding. The Handler 140 comes ready to weld with or with-out shielding gas, no additional kits are required.
