Mig shielding gas around Hawick (Scottish Borders)

Hello all! I am new to the fourm, This is a truly great resource for the newbie welder such as myself. I am on the hunt for some way to cut my cost on shielding gas. I am currently buying those disposable cylinders which works out very expensive. My 4x4 requires a lot of patching for its next mot in a few months and it will cost a fortune in gas. I have a mechanical background and i often work on other peoples cars which sometimes includes the odd welded patch. I also have a few modifications in mind for my 4x4 which will require welding and fab work. currently my welder has a disposable gas regulator which i imagine i will have to change if i were to use refillable bottles? Honestly i don't know what the cheapest and easiest way is in my area so if anyone can give me some input i will be very grateful.

if you come and get it i have half a pub CO2 bottle you can have. CO2 is not the best for thin stuff but will work.

bottle is in Carlisle none rental job. you might be able to get a refill swap if your local pub is helpful

I seem to remember seeing the Bonchester Bridge smithy listed last year as a supplier for the BOC 2 litre refillable bottles. Better value than disposables, but larger bottles would be much cheaper if you do a lot of welding.

Thanks, Jim_gsxr1000. That's the place I was thinking of, but my aged brain produced the wrong company name. The smithy is opposite the Horse & Hound pub, but if you are a Teri you could hardly get lost in Bonchester!

Thanks for all your help so far. Thanks for the offer madkayaker but i am wanting to stick to the argon mix as most of my welding is in thin jap metal and i am wanting to make it as easy as possible. The offer means allot though. I came across the place in Bonchester too Jim. Bonchester is only a 5 minute drive out of town If i was to go with them would i need to rent a cylinder on top of refills? I am just worried it will cost a fortune. Although if i can get a hold of gas cheaper than what i currently am now i could afford to practice instead of just pulling the trigger and hoping for the best half the time.

No not rent, you put a deposit of £50 oon a bottle, and a gas fill is £24.99 once u get a bottle all u do is pay for a fill !
