Mig gas

Im guessing this is asked all the time. But here goes ive been giver a reg and a bottle . Bottle from a pub at a guess. Is there anywhere i can get it filled for mig welding. I live near Dudley in the west Midlands. Thanks in advance

Local Landlord might swap it for a few quid pocket money Make sure it's straight CO2 though & not "mixed" gas, which contains Nitrogen (not good for welding) & is increasingly being used in the pub trade.

someone else suggested a short time ago that a local fire-extinguisher company might be able to fill a CO2 bottle.

That's another option yes. The breweries have recently clamped down heavily on their cylinders though + it would need to be in test (they need pressure testing every 5 years).

If you go down this route, go to a pub that has post-mix soft drinks, and ask for the gas they use for that. Though I would have thought that the kind of landlord that would go for this kind of shenanigans would be the kind that serves Coke out of 2 litre bottles.

Thanks guys for the time being im using my dads arc and getting some good results so am gonna use the mig for really thin stuff and get a few little throw away bottles for now. But thanks for the advice much appreciated

Why they they make **** loads more on post mixes. Even at trade prices & selling at pub prices a 2L bottle will only make 3-400%. Next time you see a post mix drink made watch how little mix goes in the glass. If I remember right the container they come in holds about 15L & costs about £70. Think the mix ratio is 100-1 so will make 1500L of coke at £1 a 1/2L.

When I worked at McDonald's I was responsible for setting the calibration on the drinks towers. The ratio for water to syrup was 4.2 to one, if I recall correctly. You've also got to consider the costs of the water - running and mantaining the purification, refrigeration and carbonating equipment, and the costs of the CO2.

When i was in the trade (about 6 years ago) a 15l post mix box of virgin cola was £35. Mixed at approx 5-1. 18 gallons of coke for £35 + a bottle of gas. Sold for £1 per half pint, so about £250 profit on a box of coke (unless my calcs are really out!)
Soft drinks are the only ones that use pure co2 now. The 70/30 (co2/nitrogen) is used on pretty much all beers now.
