Mig for Ally

Looking for the wise old heads of the forum to help me make mind up on a new mig soley for welding ally. I am wanting something I can chuck in the boot of the car and take home from time to time and ideally 200-250 amps. I will be welding 2m - 5mm thick max. I have been searching around the internet looking for inverter migs and three seem to come up quite regular.

I got around £100 - £1200 budgeted and maybe more for the right set, I am not keen on spool on gun types. Any help gratefully recived.

wouldn't want to chuck it in the car though.... ....never used any of those welders,but Phil weeks is local and deals with a lot of local buisness's,has a good reputation ,provides a good service etc....give them a ring and arrange a trial

£100-£1200? That's a bit of a spread so I'll assume you mean £1000-£1200. I would seriously look at the new Minarc from Kemppi which Rapidweld are selling. 200amp Evo or the older 180 might just do your job and save you a bit of cash.

As pedro said, the new 200 amp kemppi minarc mig would be a good machine.

I recently used my 180 amp minarc for a bit of aluminium....it was easy to set up ...change liner etc. The setting up of the wire speed and volts was easy as it's automatic, i just set the metal thickness and it did the rest and produced some nice welds.

I have not tried ally with my Kemppi,What grade wire did you use 4043 or 5356 and did you use the U rollers or just the mild steel V ones? Do you have any pic's?

I used 1mm 5356 wire and didn't change the rollers as they were marked for 1mm as well as 0.8.

I only had to change the liner and tip.

I was impressed as it gave good results (for me) straight away.

I didn't get any pics of the trailer repair i used it on but it worked well.

Thanks for the replies, Kempii mini arc is not something I even looked at but seeing nods it's getting on here maybe I should, also the ESAB caddy.

Any dealers on here got any input now I got some independent points of view?
