Method of hitching a cycle & trailer required-see pic

I am trying to find a method of hitching a cycle cart to a cycle. The method used in this picture for cam carts looks ideal, but they will not sell the hitch device SEPERATE to the complete cam carts. Has anyone got any ideas how something alternative could be fabricated incorporating a quick release mechanism?

Hi,

it shouldn't be too hard to make the same type of hitch as the advert shows using a 40mm ball welded onto a bracket.

The only tricky bit would be to hammer a suitable indent into a bit of flat to make the socket.

If I was doing it I'd look at a winged bolt in the upper bracket, possibly with a lock-nut on...

so you'd loosen the wing-bolt, attach the trailer, wind the wing-bolt down until it's about 1/4" above the socket, tighten the lock-nut and tweak the wing-bolt down a touch to lock it off. There should still be a slight gap between the bottom of the bolt and the hitch to allow it to move.

It should be quick and easy to attach/detach the trailer with that, no tools required.

actually...

something similar on a car hitch allowing a padlock to be placed on the top...

it'd be extra security to ensure the caravan stayed attached while towing and stop someone trying to nick the van when parked up at the services!

Could you use an old track rod end attached to the trailer. The tapered piece can fit through a plate attached to the seat post.A wing nut and safety pin should do the job.
