Metallic hard to spray

Are metallic paints harder to spray than solid colours ? I was going to spray my bike (bsa golden flash) black , but if its not too difficult i might spray it metallic gold.

Certain shades/colours take more skill/experience but a bike wont have large panels like bonnets and wings to show "tiger stripes" so you'll probably be ok- finish with a drop coat to make the finish even.

I used to hate metallics and wouldn't look at them but I've done a couple of scooters and bike tanks and blow ins on car panels and they are not that much different especially if you are clear coating them.

I was told years ago they were hard to spray by my uncle who was by trade a spray painter, but i thought he meant they were hard to match if you were, for instance only spraying one panel of a whole car.

I am no expert in painting but have found small items in metallic are not to bad, think if painting large panels then would need more practice. Biggest thing I had to learn was to put light coats on evenly because any areas paint is applied thicker show up easily.

The key is to keep a good wet edge going and a good overlap. It can only come with experience as you need to be able to just know when one more pass would be too much and it will run, or it's too little and too dry. You can't teach it in words and then do it perfectly, it comes with doing it getting it wrong and learning why.

should be fine on a small item , id not reccomend a beginer trys it on a side of a transit or something huge though

A Vivaro van down the road from me, really immaculate and as it came from the factory in metallic grey if you catch it in full sunlight sideways on it looks like it has dark and light vertical stripes perfectly parallel top to bottom. It looks like a special effect it is so regular.

Won't be the programmer, probably the boss or the bean counter.
"Why do you make it go all the way to the top and down again every time, just make it spray on the way up too, it's faster, honestly, what do I pay you for?"

Regular one when I was doing some CNC milling....
