Metalastik bushes

Anyone know where i can buy the genuine metalastik anti-vibration bushes ? I priced some for the motor mounts on the Surface grinder, and was told £35+VAT+POST EACH ! Which i thought was a bit steep, £160 for four bushes !

There must be someone selling the real ones, for less ?

Could you post a picture or size/spec. for what you want. 'Metalastik' as a search term covers a very wide scope, from Mk1. Escort suspension bushes, through engine mounts and beyond.

Try 'anti-vibration mounts' as an alternative search term.

I wouldn't have thought motor mounts on a surface grinder would be that complex a thing.

Maybe not, but the motor, which is pretty heavy hangs off the bushes. If they were too soft i would think it would sag back too far, causing the drive belt to come off, or if they were too rigid, perhaps the motor vibrations would be transmitted to the wheel ? I have one of the old bushes here, its marked "Metalastik" and the part number. Have they gone out of business ?

They're probably not just a basic rubber block sandwiched between basic mounting plates then.

You do get mounts designed for hanging things, which have the metal plates/inserts designed so the rubber is still under compression, unlike a standard mount where it would put the rubber under tension.

It looks like they are now part of Trelleborg. As 500e says, try their current UK distributor.

I think you may have confused us all by referring to it as a bush. To me, a bush goes in a hole. That is also why Bob has suggested polybushes. Can you confirm whether the bit with 12 on it goes into anything or is in free air.

The way I see your picture is that it has two independent male threads on it, one secured to the mounting with a nut, the other secured to the motor with a nut. That is a standard male-male anti-vibration mount. If the threads are imperial, you might struggle to get a direct replacement, but the equivalent metric size would do. Thanks Argoshield, no the rubber part does nothing apart from absorbing the vibration between the too sides, which is a plate bolted to the face of the motor, and an opposite plate bolted to the grinder.

could you extend the bracket it hangs from to be like a g clamp , actually a G clamp then site the motor on a vib mount on the lower arm , so the motor sits on the mount in compression rather than hanging from it , if you get my thinking , if you have room , may help the new ones last a long time they use them in washing machines a lot and they are cheap .

Vibration bushings are not just get a bit of rubber, as I found out fitting engine in boat can't remember who it was worked out the vib problem but the mounts made a Big diferance & it was not the one you would expect to be best.
As this is for precision machine try for the correct bushing

Yeah i think you are correct, but £160 for four small parts is a bit stiff.
