Metal sheds, dont we just love them.....not

I am now having the 8x6 foot metal shed for my fishing gear as we are now having a pool table in the ` X workshop` as SWMBO like a game, and even though it has no door yet it still gets a bit of condensation,as mad as i may sound.

Now obviuosly when my gear is in it i will fit a door.

So for those that know how condensation is made. I plan to either build a new wooden shed from Phenolic ply. Or line this with the three way stretch felt. BUT has anybody done this and it has worked. I dont want to mess with full insulation as rather built a new shed.

BTW it has a concrete base which will be sealed and lifted a breeze block high off the ground for more head room so base up it will be dry.

Condensation will form on surfaces whose temperature is below the dew point temperature of the air in contact with those surfaces so, even with a door wide open, condensation will still occur, typically after a period of cold weather, which cools things in the shed, and is then followed by some warmer moist air, which is when the condensation will be at its worst. The other thing to consider with a wide open door is that mist and fog gets in, and lands on the stuff in the shed. The roof of the shed can have quite an influence, too, since it is "staring" at a very cold sky so, once the sun goes down, and before it rises, the roof can become very cold, and can lead to cooling of things in the shed, together with condensation occurring on the top and underside of the metal roof (think of what happens to the roof of the car in the evening, when the sky is clear). If you have an infrared thermometer, try pointing it at the sky at various times of the day, especially a clear sky at night time. An insulated roof can make quite a difference. Insulated sides, too.

You're not wrong there,i put up a 6x4 there a few months ago,half way through i had a panel missing,,so had a moan back at amazon,sent a replacement,it was only towards the very end of the build doing the roof trim,i noticed that 2 panels were stuck together,bloody hell,i've seen 2cv metal thicker than that,i left it as it was,no wy was i taking that apart again,oh,and dont start me on those bloody screws jezzzzzzzzzzz

All my gear is in an 8x6 and I haven't had a any problem with condensation since i bought a 300w greenhouse heater...doesn't even register on my smart meter but after a day or 2 of being plugged in I've had no condensation at all. It's not insulated either. I do plan on insulating it at some point but the heater is doing a pretty good job to be honest

I also have a metal shed, my two issues are the condensation and the sliding doors. I had planned to replace the roof with OSB or chipboard and maybe put the tin roof back on top, spaced a bit, to protect the board from the worst of the rain, but I expect I'd have to put something directly on the board too. Sounds as if that won't eliminate condensation, but might reduce it. I already strengthened the doors because the wind blows straight at them and after the first windy night they'd bowed inwards. That might be why they're so difficult to slide now - when I was collecting the Alpine spares there was a similar shed there in a more sheltered position and the doors on that were fine. So maybe I need to convert it to proper hinged doors too.

I bought a insulated box, foam with steel sheet either side and fits together with latches , it was a industrial freezer unit , for keeping lets say stuff to be polite ,cold, I used it as a oven , but if you could get hold of similar would make an ideal shed . re clad outside so no one would complain.

My metal shed is 12 thou thick, that includes the paint.

Got our about a year ago and it was around £240 for an 8x6 and a wooden one was around £700

My big wood shed suffers from condensation at times through winters - water dripping from the roofing timbers. Finally did something about it the other day after 15 years - used a couple of old fan vents, one 4" and one 5" cowl to put vents front and rear. Noticeably better within a day.

dont build the breeze blocks its pennys for concrete blocks so use them

is yours a speed reference or not ?

is it an insulation warm thing you want ?

you can build in concrete blocks in a few days as youve got the concrete base and id adjust your base to be longer 10x6 as you can use one side of the shed for your rods and the other for a table

Is wall sprayed cellulose insulation with glue popular in the UK ?
It used to be around here in industrial buildings, for heat insulation and condensation.

I did a bunch of research on it,
modified a regular blowing machine, made the nozzle, spray pump, etc.

Did a small section of my shop, but some of it fell off.
There is a learning curve, and I ran out of gumption.

Unlike foam, it's cheaper, more fire resistant, doesn't hold water (if you have a roof leak, it
comes off)

The pad its on is not great. maybe 3 inch. Ah but i may have reniforced it with 12mm bar. Yes icould build it out of block, sods law not long ago sodl mt cement mixer. I have space for another few feet if needed ( space for garden tools, ladders storage etc ) but rods are not 10 foot. and i dont keep the up, stand upright in racking or if on the wall all two / three piece My rod bag is 5 foot to take th erods. like the idea on building a block shed though.
