Metal hood for open fire

Hi gotta make hood for open fire just wondering what thickness plate would be best?? Something like 3 mm?

Depends on size of fire, proximity of hood etc...

More info: Is it a one sided hood like a front porch. Or a round one for free standing.
If you use a frame, then 1/1.5mm if no frame then 2mm. 3 sounds pretty heavy.
