Metal honing - driving me crazy!

Hi all

I have a 1008 taper lock bush with a 25mm bore, (like so

It needs to fit onto a 26mm shaft.

Whats the best way of boring this out? I have tried a brake hone but it wore away before anything wore down.

A lot of metal work places wont look at it as the job is too small.

This is the only thing holding me back from my diesel bike conversion, any ideas all?

Either find somebody with a lathe or just buy a 26mm bush, they are only a few quid.

Its tougher thatn you might think.

also, they dont seem to make a 26mm bush , not even in the next size up (1008 or higher)

Try a local machine shop first thing in the morning (before the boss gets in) and you would be suprised what you can get done with a donation to their beer fund!

the outside is tapered with a slit down one side .so getting that in a chuck and holding it to bore it out would be good fun if its going inside a pulley it would be easier to asemble it put the pulley in a 4 jaw chuck in the lathe and then bore it out

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. Somebody mentioned spark erosion to me, seems a tad ott!

Need to mount that in your pulley/gear and then offer the whole lot into a lathe any machine shop can do it....if your part is huge or odd... buy a pulley or something that will fit in a lathe

Its a hardened crank shaft, so I would have to dismantle the engine to get it turned

I drilled mine out with a pillar drill - easy peasy.

The other solution which I have used is to buy the next size up and shim it out with some plastic cut from a milk bottle.

Both methods work fine, admittedly it was only a 13mm shaft though!

How about an adjustable Ream ?

Cant you put the bush into the pulley then place the pulley in the lathe !
