Mens sheds movement

A good friend of mine was involved in making a documentary about The Mens sheds Movement based around the Squirrels nest in South wales.
The team won documentary of the year for their film.
Lovely film seeing these guys open up about life was wonderful.

I watched it. Good video.

I’ve never ‘got’ the mens shed thing. I don’t open up to people so don’t really get the mental health benefits. Watched it to see if I could make some sense of the appeal.

Not really was the verdict, but those people found it useful so good for them

Each to their own etc but for them it works which is a good thing.

There was an attempt to start a group locally, but I think it has failed. I wasn't there in the early meetings but I think it may have been sold much more as TV's "Repairshop" with people bringing things along to be fixed (e.g. expensive high-pressure coffee makers which leaked).

There's a separate movement called "Repair Cafes" and that is very much like Repairshop. The Oxford Repair Cafe has a "tools library", loaning all kinds of tools cheaply.

Sadly, the nearest active Shed group is just a bot too far away from me.

There are three mens sheds near here, two of them only a quarter of a mile apart.
I have donated a lot of tools to a couple of them & one of the organisers would like me to get involved, I have stayed away as their attitude to H&S is lackadaisical in the extreme & i just know it would be a load of agravation!

I volunteer at the Lichfield and Burntwood repair cafes. Mostly people are genuine. But there are the odd one or two that you just know the items are going back on E Bay.
