Memlite bulb holder

Boot sale find this morning, £2.

Shade is pretty banged up, not sure it's even original. No bulb holder either.
Any ideas on getting the enamel off? Ideally at home, and for free, so not getting it blasted.
I guess I could fill and paint if need be.

Wjat to do about a bulb holder though. It will be used, probably above a lathe, so need to decide what bulb type to use too. Im sure ive read about strobe issues with some lights?

It is indeed vitreous.
If I decided to try and get it off, I'd guess a hammer would be the only way.
It looks like it's covered in air gun pellet dents so it needs straightening out anyway, I'll see how much of the enamel that pings off (I'll wear goggles!)

That's what I thought. Apparantly he had 2. Shame I missed the other, but I've no idea why the other person didn't buy both!
Unless they didn't know what it was and left it as it has no bulb holder.

Enamel removal

Evening guys. Any of you chaps know the best method to remove melamine from this machinist lamp. Never worked with the stuff.

I would guess the original bulb holder was a standard bayonet. The new holder will have to suit the low voltage bulb you choose.

Look for a standard machine light, see what is in one of those and copy it.

I'm leaning towards leaving it as is.
But I'm also leaning towards just sticking it on eBay too.
I don't really NEED it, it's just a nice thing. I'd be keeping it in case I needed it further down the line and that's something I'm trying not to do.

Ill clean it up and think about it.

From looking at others I'm certain it's not even the right shade anyway.

It will take a standard BC lampholder, when bashing it straight wera gloves and goggles, stove enamel is basically glass, and a splinter of that in a finger is a hospital job! I dont think it is the right shade, I have one of those lamps on my mill at the moment, but different shade, unless that it the very early pattern.

I know. There is reasoning though.
The one I bought was cheap, has the right shade, and a bulb holder. The arm and base is rough though.
Ill make a good one from the two, and the rough arm and this shade will get repainted.

Still not sure what I'll do with them when I get to that stage though

Yep, I work with glass enameled Steel pipe every day. Use to be a ceramic tiler too. Hate glass splinters/shards!

any bc lamp holder and an led cool white bulb. just give it a bit of a rub up inside and a bit of white enamel paint its not a show piece or an ornament
