Meet Connie

Connie is a cormorant, patiently drying her wings. Thought I'd try something in a slightly different style and with different materials (she is made from stainless steel and TIGed together). Not too hard to do - having done this one I plan on having a go at something a bit more ambitious in the same style, like a swooping owl. No prizes for guessing what the owl will be called!!

Location would have been even better if the sun hadn't gone in before I got there - should've gone this morning, placing too much trust in the forecast again!

Hmm, I don't think I'm in the same league as the great man yet, probably never will be - but I'm practicing lots!!

Bending the bars: I don't have any 'proper' bending equipment (e.g. like the Metal Craft tools Chunko uses) so I got two short pieces of round - one maybe 25-30mm diameter bar and the other 40mm dia thick walled tube and MIGED them together; parallel and spaced apart by about 12mm with a couple of very short bits of flat. I put this contraption in the vice with the gap upwards and used it to bend the bars, using the 25mm side for the sharper curves and the other side for the more gentle curves. I used a mallet for a bit of encouragement where the sharpest curves were needed. I hope that makes sense? Crude but quite effective.
