You could fit a single-phase, not a BAD idea but unless you can get a secondhand bargain it's likely to cost more than a cheap Chinese VFD...All wired up now thank you all @Agroshield, @Richiew .
The drive belt is a little too tight, so it struggles a little to start. It's also worn out, so I'll kill two birds, and get one that fits, and isn't putting everything under strain.
I now need to invest in another VFD (As specced by @Hopefuldave ), alternatively I'm tempted to just put on a single phase motor instead - is that such a bad idea?
I've gone the other direction, single-phase on my 7x12 bandsaw carked it shortly after buying it (secondhand), I'd already built a rotary converter for the mill and discovered a 3-phase motor behind a box under the bench... Now a hotrod bandsaw, went up from 1&1/2 to 2 HP as that was what's available free and for nuffink!
