Never got close to a Number 10 Set, but had the open-frame electric motor.
If my memory's not playing tricks, there was a change from square nuts to hex nuts at some point?

No you're right. I had the hex ones, but I'm a bit younger than you.

My Mum had some, from perhaps pre-WW2 era, in original boxes and gave it to a museum! I remember playing with it as a kid before I got into Lego Technic... which I'm now back into as an AFOL; Adult Fan Of Lego.

I found all my old Meccano had been left in a bucket out in the shed which was a little annoying to say the least, loads of random red and green bits and a few sets of metal car wheels, it is now in a bucket in my garage so no change other than geographical.

I had loads of it when a school boy couple of elec motors, boxes of gearwheels etc, (square nuts not me the Meccano) Loved it, in later years I asked my parents what happened to it and they didn't know (strange). Fancied having another go in the last lock down but some of the prices were quite high.

When I got interested in girls my mum gave all my Meccano and Lego away, I had boxes of both.

I can beat you all. My meccano was just plain metal. The motor was the same as the picture. Square nuts too. Such an inefficient motor but as a kid 68 years ago you made do with whatever you were given. My Dad was a greengrocer but would go to markets and my toys were always second hand. It was always exciting to see what goodies might be in a box be brought home.
