goodafternoon all i brought my mig some time back i havent used it a lot but recently i am since i have ive noticed the feed doesnt seem to be constant its sort of 'jerky ' im not sure if the roller is worn which i doubt since its almost brand new could it be the wire im using 0.6 but i brought the wire from toolstation the motor is ok i can see it rotating the roller. is this the point where the contact is made to the wire or is there a further point that makes the contact.
i have tried to contact kende but as yet they havent answered, i dont mind getting a new roller removal and refiting is easy ive already done that to check it wasnt dirty or greasy. any advice would be much appreciated

Hi, and welcome to the forum, loads of great advice here.

Are you running gas or gasless? If the machine is intended for gasless (flux core wire) the roller grooves may be oversize for 0.6mm wire.

What tip size are you using? The power enters the wire through contact with the tip so an oversize tip can cause momentary loss of current to the wire, and therefore to the weld.

ok im running gasless the size of the tip was what came with the unit for 0.6 , the weld seems ok however the feed to it seems jerky as i said the roller turns but doesnt always pull the wire through.
the tension is enough for the tension roller to spin too but the wire stays put i brought a new roll of wire as i said from toolstation but its never really really pulled evenly in the machine i fear the roller is knackered if it is i dont know where to get a new one from as kende havent responded to my email, or the wire is too fine although it measures .6 with the micrometer.
as for the machine i brought it as gasless for that reason i only wanted it for repairs so therefore spot welding was fine.
if there is anymore information you need let me know

Have you ever cleaned the liner out, blown out with compressed air?, the wire deposits "dust" which eventually clogs the liner causing feed problems.

when the mig was purchased the wired that came with it was sip 0.6 mild steel wire it came on a larger 5kg spool which wouldnt fit in but it came with a small reel to wind onto so i did but thought this was very time consumming so i got the same spec smalller reel from toolstation and that where the trouble began.

yes i thought it might be some sort of build up but i cleaned it out and it stil seems to be where the rollers are which is the issue

ive just had the mig apart again and i think it is the powered roller from what i understand the channels should both be v shaped the 0.9 is still that but the 0.6 channel is a definate U shape i can see a a groove at the bottom but the rest is rounded, does anyone know where to get spares , and are they generic are parts swapable.
another thing springs to mind the original wire doesnt say fluxed has anyone a link to fluxed 0.6 wire

so are you welding with shielding gas? 0.6mm wire needs a gas shield. This wont affect how the wire feeds but just checking you have what you need.

no im still gasless, but i read all that was said and ordered some fluxed wire online the picture i saw the wire looks a lot different to what i got before and since its 0.8 ive already swapped the roller to its 0.8/0.9 so it will be running in a v again rather then the u shaped 0.6 groove ..... i would still like to get a replacement roller soon just in case can anyone tell me a site i can go to to order it from

both mate. I wrote off a cbr400 when i was 17, hospital for a few months, pins and screws left right and centre. Currently got a cbr600, xr650, just sold a bandit 1200 and a yz250, and got a zephyr 750 frame with a cbr400 engine in it sat at my dads house

Snap left leg knee rebuilt two pins two plates ten screws one which worked its way out and needed a minor op to remove it funny that as they made the cut the screw popped out onto the table quick stitch and a plaster and i rode home from the hospital (all because a drunk lorry driver wanted the bit of road i was on , apparently he crashed it a mile of two down the road and legged it police never found him and the owner of the lorry said he had sold it so the police stopped investigating me i had a year learning to walk again no limp and one twisted up xs650 still i got a silverwing gl500 a bit more forgiving on the old bones but that died a couple of years ago.

My 105EN has a slightly bent spindle so is prone to this unless the pinch roller is really tight. I guess the proper solution is a replacement motor/spindle.

the question is where do you get a new roller from i emailed kende again yesterday, that was me being a glutten for punishment still no response. however i did recieve my new fluxed .8 wire which im going to install this morning at least that groove is v shaped, perhaps they had a bad batch of rollers maybe the steel was a little softer then it should be after all i hardly think 200 ft of wire is a lot to run through for the roller to wear still cant find a patch to order a new roller i spent 3 hours yesterday giong through all the patches google put up still no joy in finding a supplier.

just welded the kitchen chair back together , roller is ok on the .8 wire and thanks folks the welds are a lot better with the flux wire, im will still try and find a new roller and i will post an address if i manage to find one
